Jackson County AmeriCorps

Jackson County AmeriCorps members perform many duties within the community that address the educational needs of adults and children and volunteerism for non-profits. Members may serve at American Red Cross, Anchor House, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, Child Care Network, Girls Inc, Girl Scouts, Jackson County Public Library, Jackson County United Way, and Read Jackson County. Members serve in roles including: program coordinators, technology assistants, tutors, and volunteer managers. Service project activities occur at various sites throughout Jackson County throughout the course of the year.

Project ACES Corps


 
Project ACES (Accelerating Children with Education Support) members provide direct educational support, healthy lifestyles programming, character and leadership programming and/or volunteer recruitment/management services to assist Indiana youth and Indiana youth serving agencies in reaching their full potential. AmeriCorps members perform direct service assisting young people and building the capacities of Boys & Girls Clubs and the surrounding communities to deliver quality youth development programming.

Providing service opportunities for individuals interested in working with at-risk children and youth in 
Boys & Girls Clubs across Indiana.
 
 

We currently have over 100 AmeriCorps members working in Boys & Girls Clubs across Indiana. Our members focus on three core topics: Character & Leadership, Education, and Health and Life Skills.

Spread the word! The more the public is aware of what we do and our dedication to work with at-risk youth, the more the public will recognize our hard work and how it is paying off across Indiana and our support for Boys & Girls Clubs.

Neighborhood After-School Corps

The Neighborhood After School Corps, an AmeriCorps program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis, provides services and programs to better the lives of youth in Marion County.  Members both develop new programs and assist with ongoing services that focus on leadership development and the creation of opportunities for youth to implement community service projects.  Additional  services such as tutoring, after school enrichment activities, summer day camps, conflict resolution skills, violence prevention skills, health education, and organized recreation are offered to meet the needs of low-income, vulnerable youth and their families in Indianapolis.

Member Benefits
  • A modest living allowance is provided to help assist with living expenses during the term of service.
  • Earn Money for College! Receive an Educational Award between $1,132 and $2,038 after completing your term of service.
  • Training is provided in First Aid, CPR, youth development, financial management, time management, grant writing, etc.
  • Gain valuable experience in youth development, working as part of a team, leading a group, and build your resume.


 

Eligibility
  • Must be 17 years of age or older.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalency.





Service Activities
  • Implement Youth Service Project groups.
  • Provide direct programs to children and youth, ages 5-18 years, after school.
  • Implement daily activities including: tutoring, conflict resolution, health and safety, enrichment, recreation, clubs, etc.
  • Recruit and support additional volunteers at sites to build organizational capacity.
  • Provide direct support to other volunteer-based organizations.
  • Attend AmeriCorps sponsored trainings, staff meetings and events.
  • Ensure the spread of AmeriCorps vision and visibility by wearing AmeriCorps gear during all service activities.
